We believe in age-appropriate learning based on the philosophy of a structured learning environment with the ability for creative expression. Before a child can create, he must learn basic skills, such as holding a crayon, using scissors, and following directions. Creative expression should encourage in all children regardless of ability. Each child should feel that they are an important and respected individual.
We believe in the “Process not the Product”, is what is significant in the way children learn.
Preschool encompasses ages 2.5-6 years (or when then begin Kindergarten in the fall). Children are exposed to art, math science, cooking, music, movement, dramatic play, language arts and large and small motor development. Children are encouraged to ask and find out “why”? Sharing with and caring for others are reinforced in daily activities. Nap time is after lunch, 12:15pm and ends at 2:30pm. Children nap on cots with their own sheet provided my LRBA and a small blanket provided by the parent. After 30 minutes of rest quiet activities will be offered for children who do not fall asleep.
As toddlers, children experience many new things in their lives and go through many changes. More structure is introduced at this level. The children eat, sleep and snack at the same time each day. Free time is provided so that each child has an opportunity to explore and be creative independently. We use disposable diapers at our center provided by each parent for their child. Children are checked every two hours or sooner as needed. A diaper changing log is kept by the teacher. Included in this log you will find the time, if your child was wet/dry, had a BM, used the potty and staff initials. Lil’ Red Barn Academy will be happy to assist you with potty training your child. We ask that you provide pull-ups, as well as 2 extra changes of clothing. Wet/soiled clothing will be sealed in a bag and sent home on a daily basis for laundering. Lil’ Red Barn Academy will not be responsible for the cleaning of wet/soiled clothing due to infection control policies. Nap time is after lunch, around 11:45-12:00pm and ends at 2:30pm. The Center is open Monday- Friday from 6:30am-6:00pm. We are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
